General thoughts:After the popularity of the internet musical, a soundtrack was to be expected. The whole album is very short (25 minutes), so don't expect hours and hours of music (unless you like it enough to listen to it over and over).
Neil Patrick Harris has a great voice here. Nathan Fillion does too, but since his character is such a jerk, it's hard to get excited about the parts that feature him. I don't much like Felicia Day's parts as much.
All in all, if you liked the film (or whatever you'd like to call it), then buy this.
Warning:The following contains spoilers for Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog.
1. Horrible Theme
Thoughts:Sets the appropriate mood. Evil, yet kind of cheesy.
2. My Freeze Ray
Thoughts:A cute song about making a crush realize you exist and taking over the world. It's a good, unconventional love song.
3. Bad Horse Chorus
Thoughts:An upbeat little song about the Thoroughbred of Sin. Enjoyable.
4. Caring Hands
Thoughts:This is Penny trying to get people to help her with the homeless shelter. Sweet and kind of sad.
5. A Man's Gotta Do
Thoughts:Decent. This introduces Captain Hammer and establishes that he's a jerk. Penny's lyrics aren't great because they state the obvious. The rest is good, though.
6. My Eyes
Thoughts:This is sung by the villain who's growing darker and colder, and also by his love interest who's becoming more hopeful and idealistic. I like it.
7. Bad Horse Chorus (Reprise)
Thoughts:A slightly shorter and darker song compared to the earlier one. Still good, though.
8. Penny's Song
Thoughts:An encouragement directed towards Billy (a.k.a. Dr. Horrible). Also kind of sweet.
9. Brand New Day
Thoughts:The best song here, as well as one of the fastest. This is the point at which the whole thing starts to take on a darker tone. After all, it is about killing the nemesis.
10. So They Say
Thoughts:Characters sing about Captain Hammer and things that are happening. How good it is depends on who's singing.
11. Everyone's A Hero
Thoughts:Being the song of the obnoxious "hero", it's not my favorite. Basically, he spends this song bragging and putting down the people as they cheer him.
Thoughts:Dr. Horrible crashes the party and makes some interesting insights on the human condition while causing chaos. The middle part is a bit cheesy, but the song is good overall.
13. Everything You Ever
Thoughts:Everything you ever what? Wanted, hoped for, dreamed of, desired? Regardless, this is about Dr. Horrible's pyrrhic victory. It's emotional and a good song overall.
14. Horrible Credits
Thoughts:A mix of the songs (most prominently Slipping) from the rest of it. An appropriate ending.
So what were your thoughts?
