To My Anti-Muslim Friends

I am tired of listening to you say Muslims are terrorists and violent.

I don't know much about Muslim theology or the Koran, but I do know enough about Christian history to say we're treading hypocritical ground when we take pieces of it to "prove" Islam is inherently violent. (See here for more perspective.)

Lots of people calling themselves Christian have exploited that image and the issues surrounding it for political and personal gain (such as a large number of American politicians and rich preachers making money off donations) or as an excuse for violence and other discrimination against women and minorities.

You're probably thinking "But those aren't true Christians." First, we still have a responsibility to do something about them. Secondly, why do we get to brush our extremists off as not our problem but Muslims don't? Especially when, as a direct result of the fear and hatred of Muslims, they are being harassed, assaulted, and killed.

It's cliché to quote the Bible verses about the branch in one's eye, but it's still appropriate.

Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
-Matthew 7:3-5 (NIV)

So Christians, please show us you are better than this.

Monday Madness:Just Checking In

Hello everyone. Hope you had a good December.

While the family was not feeling particularly festive, we still had a nice holiday, as well as a steak dinner. And I continued my tradition of being sick on Christmas. The good news is I'm feeling better today and I could be over it by New Year's.

Current blog plans are to do a Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule at minimum, maybe more often if I feel up to it. Also got a new type of review I want to try out so I can express some strong opinions about the free TV episodes I get off Google Play.

In the mean time, enjoy what remains of 2015.
