Celebrate The Small Things:June's Almost Over

Another week, and more small celebrations.

  • We took our chihuahua Rocket to the vet on Tuesday, and he turned out to be mostly healthy. He still has some minor problems, but nothing life-threatening. Oh, and he's still young enough to qualify for a puppy plan (which is a package for vaccinations and similar stuff that costs less than all the pieces would separately).
  • One of my friends has a job for two weeks. It might not be much, but it's still great he's getting work.

How are things going on your end?

Movie Review For Terminator 3:Rise Of The Machines

Premise:Yet another robotic killer is sent to kill people who are destined to fight machines in the future.

Cast:Nick Stahl as John Connor, Claire Danes as Kate Brewster, Arnold Schwarzenegger as the T-800, Kristanna Loken as the T-X, David Andrews as Robert Brewster

Director:Jonathan Mostow

MPAA Rating:R for strong sci-fi violence and action, and for language and brief nudity

Genres:Action, sci-fi/fantasy

Notes:Poster taken from IMP Awards.

Pros:Schwarzenegger's character. Decent ending.

Cons:Bland acting and characters. Rehashes the plot of the first two movies. Mediocre villain. Contradicts what was set up in the last movie.

You know the drill:In the future, the machines take over while John Connor and his human army fight back. So Skynet, the big computer program in charge, sends a specialized assassin to the past to kill someone who will be important to the resistance. We've been through this before.

As you can see, the plot doesn't cover much new ground. If you've seen the first two movies, you've already got a basic idea of how most of it will turn out.

Post A To Z Road Trip/Why I Hate Touchscreen

I've been pretty bad about visiting and commenting on other blogs lately, but I'm hoping to improve that starting this week.

And now for the two main reasons I hate using touchscreen devices.

Half the time, I accidentally click something I didn't want to.
Then it's a bunch of hitting the back button.

It takes a lot longer to type anything.
I don't mind making quick notes or edits on blog posts, but for serious writing? No.

So how has the A to Z Road Trip been for you? And what's you opinion of touchscreen?

Movie Review For Terminator 2:Judgement Day

Premise:A new cyber assassin is sent to the past to eliminate (currently 13-year-old) future leader of the resistance.

Cast:Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor, Edward Furlong as John Connor, Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator, Robert Patrick as the T-1000, Earl Boen as Dr. Silberman, Joe Morton as Miles Dyson

Director:James Cameron

MPAA Rating:R for strong sci-fi action and violence, and for language

Genres:Action

Notes:Poster taken from IMP Awards.

Pros:Good villain. Decent early plot twist. Some good action scenes.

Cons:Unlikable protagonists. Starts the franchise's time travel inconsistency. Had me asking questions about the Terminators' actions.

The first attempt to eliminate John Connor may have failed, but Skynet's not about to stop trying to end its worst enemy.

So given my love of the first movie and the popularity of this sequel, you might think this is going to be a positive review. Good guess, but no.

Celebrate The Small Things:June 19, 2015

Is it just me, or do Fridays seem to be arriving faster?

Not much is new for me. But over the week, I found some interesting links that I want to share.

Freerice.com
Visitors answer questions on whatever topic they choose (the default is English vocabulary), and the advertising revenue is used to buy rice for hungry people.

Oh Baby! Names
Not only does it tell you the meaning, popularity, and origin of the names, but it also gives you trivia about well-known people or characters who have that name.

Word Counter
Should come in handy.

Break Movies
Part of a larger website, this offers free movies to watch online. I haven't gotten a chance to watch any yet, but since it doesn't seem to make a fuss about mobile devices, it should make a good alternative to Hulu for me.

Also found a set of pretty cool social media icons for authors for 27 different sites.

So how is your week going?

Why I'm Worried About Marvel's Civil War Movie

I've thought about Civil War and the whole superhero registration issue, and I realized that this movie may not come out well.

First, they're setting up an event large enough to create a major split among teammates whom we've seen stick together through alien invasions, genocidal relatives, and evil robot armies. So unless they decide to have this affect future films, there's a good chance it'll come off as rushed.

And according to an article on Marvel's website, they also plan to include "a new and nefarious villain" that the heroes must defeat. That same article contains a rather long list of characters that includes most of the current Avengers, as well as Bucky Barnes, Ant-Man, Brock Rumlow/Crossbones, Sharon Carter, Black Panther, Thaddeus Ross, and more. Several of these characters have arcs that still haven't played out yet, meaning the movie will be packed full (remember what happened with Age Of Ultron?). Forget two hours, I'd give it three to handle all of them. (Also, if it's about most of the Avengers team and superheroes in general, why isn't it called Avengers:Civil War?)

So how do think Civil War will turn out?

Celebrate The Small Things:Wait, It's Friday?

Last weekend, I got my first blogging award. (Thanks, Eva.) Other than that, most of what I'm thinking of this week is basic stuff.

First, let us celebrate fans and air conditioning, for summer is upon us.

I Have Received The Encouraging Thunder Reward

Eva Solar over at My Miracle Life was kind enough to give me the Encouraging Thunder Award.

This is what the award's creator had to say.

What you can do with Encouraging Thunder award?
Post it on your blog.
Grant other bloggers with the award.

What you can’t do with Encouraging Thunder award?
Abuse or misuse the logo.
Claim that it’s your own handmade logo.

What you should do after receiving Encouraging Thunder award:
Enjoy the award.
At least gives thanks via comments and likes and or mentioning the blog who give the award.
Mention your purpose in blogging.

Most of the people I would think to nominate were already mentioned in Eva's post. My one nominee for this award is Storm Lantern at Clothed With Thunder. So far, he's my only blogging friend I also know face-to-face. He posts mainly about My Little Pony:Friendship Is Magic  and music he likes.

And since it said to mention my purpose, I'm out here to do two things:Vent my emotions, and talk about what's on my mind (whether it's a rant about obnoxious people or thoughts on a movie). And if you're reading, thank you for listening and chatting with me.

Celebrate The Small Things:June Has Arrived

First, I managed to get a higher quality version of the icon.

Last week, we found a chihuahua we suspect was abandoned, since  we haven't seen any sign that there's someone looking for him (no lost posters or notices, and none of the neighbors down the street recognized him).

We've started calling him Rocket (and considering how fast he moves when he sees someone he likes come nearby, it suits him). And so far, he has adapted to his new home rather well.

The biggest thing we have left to do is get him and Poochie to play nice.

Well, that's it for me. Hope you get a good weekend.

IWSG:June 2015

Another month has managed to go by.

I worry I'm not cut out for writing or very good at it, put it off without any good reason, and can't seem to stay focused on one project for very long. But I want to keep writing. Even if I never make money from it or if it's just for me, I want to keep doing it.

What motivates you to write?
